New to our school in the 2016-2017 season, we are proud to bring the Scottish dance to the Westshore Communities. Our qualified and experienced teacher is proud to bring this athletic and challenging dance style.
This class will introduce 4-6 year olds to the basics of highland dancing including basic arm and foot positions. Basic movements of highland including hop, spring, high cuts, spring points, changes, pas de bas (open & closed), and toe heel. Students also learn basic rhythm through imaginative dance, strengthen and stretch muscles through various activities, and learn to follow instructions from the teacher in a structured environment. Depending of the class progress, students should learn the Highland Fling and Sword Dance.
Students work on technique with a focus on arms, feet, turnout, elevation and shedding. Beginners will learn Fling, Sword, Lilt and Flora with a focus on basic movements, stretching and strengthening. Exam work is studied and may be recommended.
